- Fewer families are currently providing foster homes.
- There was a significant decrease in the number of homes certified each year from 2018 to 2021. From January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 more foster homes were closed than certified.
- There is a significant deficit of homes to serve youth ages 12 to 17, sibling groups of three or more, and children and youth with special medical and/or behavioral needs.

Supporting at Every Stage
In addition to aiding existing foster families, it is crucial to focus on prevention – supporting families before they reach the point of requiring child welfare services.
The challenges can be daunting, and communities often do not know how to help. By partnering with local organizations, connecting with faith-based communities, and inspiring and educating the people around us, we have the opportunity to give children, youth, and families the resources and support they need to flourish.
